Less Is More

We live in a culture of more.  Excess rules the day, and by its very nature it only increases.  What would it be like if our compulsion to get was replaced by an equally strong drive to give?  This can only happen when we acknowledge that our stuff is not our stuff.  Anything we “possess” is God’s, and we have simply been given care over it for a brief time.

Acts 4 has been used to support everything from political movements to church giving campaigns. Though the passage has been interpreted in various ways, it is hard to miss the main message. We are to be generous.  Verse 33 says, “And the apostles were giving testimony with great power to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them.”  We find this fact sandwiched between verses focused on giving and meeting the needs of others.

One of the most amazing parts of this passage is that in a group of people giving their possessions away, “there was not a needy person among them.”  God is sufficient.  He answers our faithfulness with His own.  You cannot out give God.

  • Do you believe that God will be faithful to you as you are faithful with your finances?
  • Are you willing to step up and make everything God has given you available to Him?
