Letting Go

Idol worship isn’t just something from Bible times. In fact, it’s pretty prevalent today. God wants better things for our lives than we can possibly fathom — more even than we want for ourselves, but when we desire other things more than we desire Jesus, we don’t allow Him to operate fully in our lives.

Anything given up for God is never lost. He doesn’t want something from us. He wants something for us. Matthew 7:11 says, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

God wants the best for our lives. That’s why he gave us the perfect gift — His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was born and lived without blame. He was crucified and rose from the grave, all to reunite us with our loving Father in heaven and redeem us as heirs to all the blessings of His kingdom.

When searching out idols in your life, the question is not, “What is God asking you to give up?” Instead we should ask, “What are you holding onto that might be preventing you from experiencing the full blessings God wants for your life?”
