Love Through Discipline

Discipline is difficult to go through for many reasons. It is painful and humbling. It shows we are not always right and, much to our surprise, that we don’t know everything. But it is also inevitable and absolutely necessary in our relationship with God. It is He who tells us to view our troubles and trials as seasons of His discipline, for this is proof that He loves us, and that we are His children (Hebrews 12:6-7).

All people undergo heartache and struggles in life; yet, God’s children are the ones who are able to recognize and welcome His hand in the midst of these storms. They are the ones standing in faith when it’s over. Believers in Jesus have hope as the anchor that holds us firmly when life crashes, explodes and implodes. When we face a storm with the faith that God is with us and He wants to teach us something, we are able to see that God is bigger than all circumstances.

It is important to know that God does not punish us. Jesus endured all our punishment on the cross. God’s discipline turns us toward Himself and builds us up in His love. Life is hard, but believers in Jesus have the opportunity to seek Him in His word in order to learn why it is hard. If we embrace His love through His discipline, the end result will be a harvest of righteousness and peace (Hebrews 12:10).
