More Than Conquerors

Negative remarks, mockery, and circumstances can often seem too big to handle. They become giants in our lives and often make us forget the power of God.

Goliath was someone who stood over nine feet tall. He was boastful and arrogant. Many people were afraid of him, including some of God’s chosen people. Goliath’s mockery and threats against the Israelite army caused so much fear in them that they forgot all about the power of God. When Goliath dared the army to send someone to fight him in a one-on-one battle, only David was able to overcome his fear. Seeing God as the only giant, David received permission to face Goliath in battle and was victorious with only one stone and a sling shot.

David’s courage and faith in God was all that was needed for victory over criticism, threats and intimidation. He knew his power came from Christ, as he said in 1 Samuel 17:35, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Remember, we are “more than conquerors” in Christ (Romans 8:37). Just as it was for David, our faith in Jesus allows us to find victory over the discouragement of negative remarks, mockery, and circumstances that seem bigger than our capabilities.
