Session 21
What really saves you
From Numbers: A 5-Week Devotional
In Numbers 21, the Lord sent venomous snakes among the people of Israel. After the people were bitten and many died, they asked Moses to pray and ask the Lord to take the snakes away from them. The Lord told Moses to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole so those who had been bitten could look at it and live.
It was not the bronze snake itself that healed the people, and similarly today it is not knowing about Jesus that saves us. In John 3:14-15, Jesus says, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
What saves us is the very belief that He can save us. Just like Moses lifted the bronze snake in the wilderness to save the people from physical death, Jesus was lifted on the cross and crucified to save people from eternal, spiritual death.
The Israelites asked the Lord to take the snakes away, and although He did not literally remove them He still provided a way for the people to be freed from them. Often the Lord will answer our prayers differently than we may ask of Him.
You’ve heard the saying, “Where there’s a will there’s a way,” right? Well, in God’s will there is a way. Just as the Lord did for the Israelites, He does for us today. One day, God will take away all the sin of the world forever, and until then, He gives us a way to be free from it.
Reflect:
- Has there ever been a time when you asked Jesus into your life? Not sure? Learn more about salvation here or email us at hello@newspring.cc.
- Are there any next steps the Lord is calling you to take today?
