Ordinary People

The biggest event in history just happened and who did the angels appear to? A group of shepherds. Not the king, not the president, but shepherds. God chose to announce the birth of the Messiah first to the ordinary, the outcast and the average.

God excels in using the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary. He uses the natural to perform the supernatural. He is not looking for the able but the available. He doesn’t call the equipped but He equips the called. God is looking for ordinary people who are willing to give Him their all no matter how small their all may seem.

Jesus comes to anyone with a heart humble enough to accept Him. Whoever you are, whatever you do, you can have Jesus in your life. You don’t need extraordinary qualifications; He accepts you just as you are.

  • Why do you think God wants to involve ordinary people in His extraordinary work?
  • Think about all the times you’ve ever dismissed God’s call on your life by saying, “But I can’t…” Now, go back through the list and replace “I can’t” with “He can.” How does that change your perspective on your next step?
  • What would you do for God if you knew you could not fail?
