Our Inheritance

God gave Israel land, which allowed them to produce crops and provide for themselves. This was true for every tribe except the Levites. They didn’t receive any portion of Israel’s inheritance. They were completely reliant on the provision of God. Instead of land, God gave them Himself. Their inheritance was the blessing of serving God on behalf of the people and remaining in His presence in the tabernacle.

The Levites’ inheritance and blessings are only a shadow of the blessings we have received through Christ. We are the “royal priesthood” of the new covenant in Christ (1 Peter 2:9). The Levites came near to God in the tabernacle, but we enjoy the blessing of His indwelling Spirit. Hebrews 9:14-15 says that we have been cleansed through Christ so we can serve the living God, and we are assured of our inheritance of eternal life in relationship with God through Christ.

Our inheritance is not short lived as a plot of land. The allure for temporal, physical blessing is strong, but through Christ we can be confident we have received every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3). Today, thank God for the rich spiritual blessings you have received, and ask Him to help you see how they greatly outweigh material gain.
