Peace in the Midst of Trials

James tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials. On the surface, that concept seems like an emotional oxymoron. But Job’s life gives us an incredible example of how joy and trials can coexist.

Job lost it all, and still praised the Lord. Job was not emotionless or in denial about what happened to him. In fact, Job is extremely open with his emotions. But instead of focusing on a feeling, Job focused on God’s character and in that he found the source of his joy.

Rather than focusing solely on himself and what he’s going through, Job acknowledges how great and mighty God is. He recognizes that God’s perspective is infinitely larger and better.  He realizes how small he is compared to God, and that God alone has all authority in the universe. God is awesome and it’s through this perspective that we, like Job, can trust God and worship Him even when our world seems to be falling apart.
