Session 1

You have a story to tell

From Preparing Your Heart to Go: A 7-Day Devotional for NewSpring Mission Trips
Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation... — Mark 16:15

Our lives are perfect examples of God’s work in the world. Often, the best way to show someone the difference between a life with Jesus and a life without Him is to share your story.

Your story is the good news of how Jesus changed your life. Your story answers the question: What makes Christianity different from other religions?

During your trip, you might get the opportunity to share your story. Prepare yourself by writing your story down. If you’re not sure where to start, pick an area of your life where the Lord has healed you or helped you overcome.

Write down everything that seems relevant then ask yourself, “What would I say if I only had 3 minutes?” Also, be prepared to use a translator. Keep the wording simple so a translator can communicate your story across language and culture barriers.

Focus on three points:

1. Life before - If you’re sharing your salvation story, think about who you were before Jesus and what you may have struggled with.

2. The turning point - Which key events led to you asking Jesus into your heart?

3. Life today - How Jesus has changed you since you started following Him?

Once you write out your story, practice reading it aloud. Share it with others and get some feedback. Then, get ready for God to use your story for His glory.

Reflect

Every Christian has a story to tell. What stops you from sharing yours?

Pray

Ask the Lord to give you wisdom as you write your story. He will provide you with the exact words He wants you to share.
