Session 22
I will redeem your pain
From Promises: A 30-Day Devotional
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
- Romans 5:3-5
No one wants to experience suffering and troubles. If we’re honest, we question why we have to go through them. When we’re at our weakest and most weary, God is building our character. Our struggles carve the channels through which the love of God flows into our hearts.
God promises none of our pain is wasted! He is working through difficulty for our ever-increasing good. And what is the highest good? The all-satisfying hope of Jesus — for ourselves and those around us. The experience of Jesus’ love enables us to triumph in our trials.
Reflect:
- Can you think of a past struggle that you’re thankful for? Why?
- What has stopped you from experiencing hope in difficulty?
- How could you respond to a struggle differently today knowing God is using it to bring you His love?
