Serve Someone

“If we are the body, why aren’t His arms reaching?” This is the chorus from a popular Christian song I hear on the radio. As I sing along from time to time, I find myself wondering, “Are we really reaching?”

In Romans 15, the Bible addresses bearing one another’s burdens. How wonderful it would be if the Church reached as far as we could to quickly meet the needs of others. Throughout the Bible we see examples of saved people serving people. Likewise, we should look after the good of those around us, always asking “How can I help?” That’s what Jesus did. He didn’t avoid people’s troubles. Instead, He waded in and helped out. Jesus said, “I took the troubles of the troubled.”

If you see a need today, look for a way to meet that need. If someone needs transportation, give them a ride. If someone needs a meal, cook them dinner or give them a gift card. Pay for someone’s lunch, fill someone’s gas tank or pay someone’s power bill. Maybe someone just needs a hug.

Acts of kindness bring joy to those around us and shine be the light of Christ in a dark world. How will you serve someone today?
