Sex as a Gift

There are few places in scripture that give more detailed instructions for passionate, fulfilling, God-honoring sex than 1 Corinthians 7. Paul explains that sex between a married couple is one of God’s gifts to us, and he gives us a guideline to help us understand how to fully experience the blessing that sex within a marriage is.

Paul communicates several main ideas with respect to honoring God in the marriage bed. He explains that sex should not be used as a means of manipulation within a marriage, and he also reminds us that it’s meant for enjoyment for both spouses.

God created sex as a blessing to be experienced between a man and wife within a marriage. Sexual impurity, such as premarital sex, extramarital sex or even pornography, deprive us of experiencing the full potential of the blessing the Lord intends for us within a marriage. Abstaining from sexual impurity and focusing on God’s original intent for sex will allow us to enjoy His plan for our lives more fully.

  • Do you view sex as a means for manipulation in your marriage?
  • If you aren’t married, are you protecting the blessing of sex for yourself and your future spouse?
