Slaves to Sin

Through every stage of life -- before knowing Jesus and after giving my life to Him --  I’ve struggled with sin. As I take each next step, another part of my sinful nature is exposed and my eyes are opened to something else I need to work on. At times it seems I’m in a battle with myself: my desire to live a godly life versus my selfish nature.

In Romans 7:21, the apostle Paul sums up this plight when he writes, “So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.” Isn’t it a bit of a relief to know that even Paul struggled with his own sinful nature? Becoming a Christian doesn’t mean that all temptation and sin will be wiped out of our lives. If nothing else, Satan will tempt us even more after we give our lives to Christ.

Paul reminds us that it is only through Jesus Christ that we are rescued from this “body of death.” As long as we live, we will all struggle with our sinful natures, but we can rejoice that we serve a risen Savior who died for our sins and redeems us all.
