Something Sweet

Have you ever had your feelings hurt by someone else’s words? Have you ever hurt someone with your own words? If you are honest, the answer is yes to both. Sticks and stones can break bones, but words will always hurt more. A physical wound can heal and may not leave a scar. Words tend to cut deep, leaving permanent defects on our hearts. So why is it that harsh words seem to flow so easily and sometimes the release of kind words is like pulling teeth?

Proverbs 16:24 tells us that “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Instead of nasty conversation, perhaps we could all use, for lack of better phrasing, a lick from the honeycomb. Make a conscious daily effort to say something nice to everyone you encounter. You never know whose bones need healing.
