Tangled Threads

When we are in the deep, dark depths of trials and testing, life seems terrible from every angle. Our problems are on our minds from the minute we wake up (if we are even able to sleep) until the day is through.

During these painful periods, our lives feel like a tangle of mismatched thread, a garish web of clashing color with no semblance of harmony or design. It’s much like looking at the back of a needlepoint project. There are crossed yarns, knots and kinks. There is not much pattern or harmony.

Yet God sees what’s on the other side. Even if the tapestry of our life isn’t finished yet, He can see the finished product. And what He sees is magnificent, beautiful and radiant.

God’s charge to us, on good days and bad days (especially on the bad), is to fix our eyes on the unseen and the eternal. It’s these things that are lasting, these things that make the masterpieces when this short, earthly life is through. Momentary troubles, griefs, frustrations and persecutions will all fall away. The treasures we store up in heaven will never fade.

Let’s fix our eyes on the glory that awaits us, the glory that outshines all of these tangled threads.
