The New You

I can remember sitting in my Newspring Ownership Class beaming with excitement over the new season of life God had carefully orchestrated for me. He brought me to Newspring Church and has used the ministry to free me for more powerful worship and service than I have ever known. As my class concluded, and I looked through the list of Volunteer Opportunities in the Ownership workbook, I almost leapt from my seat when I saw “writing devotionals and other resources for the Newspring Next Steps Team.” Written devotionals have been a part of my relationship with the Lord since the night I received God’s forgiveness at age fourteen, but I never dreamed that I would get to use writing to minister to other people!  In Ephesians 2:10, Paul teaches the people of the Ephesian church (and us) that God has planned many good works for us, and He desires for us to do those works, wherever and whatever they may be.

The beauty of this plan comes from the explanation in verses 1-9 of how God makes us new and equips us to serve Him.  While we were still dead in our sins, He showed mercy to us because He loves us, revealing His forgiveness and love through His Son Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection.  When we accept that forgiveness and allow Jesus to direct our lives, God makes us spiritually new, filled with His power, and ready to do the “good works” He has already planned for us to do. God calls us to do these works in order to grow us and bless us beyond anything we can imagine, and the opportunities are just waiting for us to take hold of them!

  • What are some of the good works you have seen God equip and prepare you for since you began following Him?
  • How are you using your gifts to serve God? Are there any ways you can start using your gifts?
