The Root of Passion

What does God want us to be passionate about? Him. The first commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deut. 4:6) But sometimes we are distracted from this by all the other things vying for our attention.

To become passionate about God it helps to learn how passionate He is about us. Hosea 2:19 says, “I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.”

When you feel your passion being diverted by your favorite TV show, your upcoming date, your job or any of the distractions with which the world beguiles us, let scripture remind you how much God loves you and misses spending time with you, and make time for Him.

It’s not easy, but it’s so worth it. Whether a quiet walk in the woods, watching a sunrise or listening to a song with special meaning for you, find that place or thing that makes you feel God’s passion for His creation and, in turn, your passion for Him rising. If you seek Him out, he will increase your joy in the time you spend with Him and keep you walking in His way.
