The secret to Joshua’s success

In Proverbs 13:20 King Solomon said, “Walk with the wise and become wise.” We learn wisdom from doing life with the men and women ahead of us in the game. Learning from them. Listening to their heart. Letting them speak encouragement, and then passing it on to someone younger than us.

Moses and Joshua lived this concept out. In Exodus 24:12-18, when Moses went up on Mount Sinai, he took Joshua with him. Again in Exodus 33:7-11, Joshua was at Moses’ side when he would go into the tent of meeting to hear from the Lord.

Moses was leading, and Joshua was there, studying, learning, preparing for the day when leadership would change hands. Moses invested in Joshua, and because of this investment, Joshua became the godly leader that we read about in Joshua 1:5, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

We were never meant to do life alone or to run this race by ourselves.

As Jesus followers it is our responsibility to, like Moses, invest ourselves in the lives of those younger than us. Let them in on what God is teaching us, what we have learned, and what God is doing through us. Let them come alongside of us and witness what God is doing. We were never meant to do life alone or to run this race by ourselves.

The greatest investment you can make in the kingdom of God could be equipping those younger than you to go further than you ever thought about going.

  • Who is one person God placed in your life that could learn from you?
  • What is one thing you could do to intentionally invest in the lives of the next generation of Christians.
