Waiting with Expectation

We live in an impatient generation that hates to wait. We fidget in lines, often ending up in the one that stops moving. We switch lanes in traffic. We become frustrated when our phone doesn’t load a website quickly enough. And yet, lines eventually move, and we arrive at our destinations.

It’s that way with faith at times. There is a desire to know more about Jesus, but we want to know it all now. However, James 1:4 says, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Being a believer is a journey. Faith work takes time and sometimes it requires waiting. If faith is to grow and if belief is to become secure, waiting with excitement and expectation is required as Jesus reveals new and joyous things.

There may be decades of reading scripture and moments of doubt, anger, and indecision, but be “…confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6).

  • What moments of doubt or trials have you experienced as a believer? Do you believe these times were “a test of your faith,” as James suggests?
  • What is your next step in your faith journey?
