What’s Next?

As I begin to count the days until college graduation, I am learning more and more that planning can consume a person. I’ve found my thoughts overwhelmed with questions I don’t always have the answer to. What job do you have lined up? Where are you going to live? With whom will you remain in contact? What’s your next step in the walk of life?

Each of us will face situations of change at some point in life. Questions, uncertainty and doubts will rise as we wonder what our next season of life holds.

David’s prayer in Psalm 25 is a perfect example of the confusion that we all face. He asks the Lord to show him His ways and teach him His paths, and he begs God to guide him in truth. On his own, David had no idea what he was supposed to do, but he did have the most crucial part of life understood: “In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.”

We may not know what God wants in terms of plans for our lives. We may not know where we will live in a month, if we should pursue a certain someone, if we will be able to get a job, or if we should have children. Fortunately, God doesn’t require us to know all the answers. Instead, He begs us to just trust His guidance in our lives. God already knows our future, and He has specific and perfect plans for us. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has plans to give us hope and a future. We don’t have to fight to figure it all out; we are simply allowed to walk in the path He has already paved!

  • What areas of your life are you not trusting God to take care of?
  • Walking with God is a daily blessing that we often miss out on when we focus too much on the future. How can you focus on the blessings God has given you today?
