When Worry Takes Over

Do you find yourself stressing and worrying and sweating bullets over the details of your life—the ones you absolutely cannot control? For example, are you right this minute trying to figure out what your boss is thinking about you? Is there a chronic or acute illness in your family that threatens to disrupt the status quo?  Do you find yourself criticizing everything and unable to focus at all on the blessings?

Worry steals our attention and saps our joy by taking our attention off who we belong to and putting it on what we’re going through. When we take our eyes off of Jesus, ‘the author and perfector of our faith,’ the one who knows us best and has a plan for our lives, we will languish in futile times of thinking on things of little import when Christ is waiting to reveal the bigger things and Himself to us.

When we take our eyes off the one who can guide our steps, we will find ourselves wandering into the future where we cannot see and have no business being because He is not ready to take us there, though He knows and has planned it for us.

When we take our eyes off the one who knows our intimate thoughts and the desires of our hearts, we will lose the opportunity to have the Creator of the universe transform our very minds and give us what we desire.

As we follow Jesus, we become who He desires for us to be. All it takes is the next step—and the next. We have to step out in faith. Jesus never begs. And He never looks back. He just says, “Come and follow and I will make…” The rest is up to us. And He will be there with us all the way.
