Why You Should Invite Others Into Your Dreams

Ever look back at your younger self and think, “Man, I was naive.” We don’t know how much we don’t know until our perspective changes.

Reminiscing on where we came from puts into perspective what it took to get where we are now. We may not notice the impact of one question or comment at the time, but in hindsight we can see how each person’s investment shaped who we are today. As we trace the threads of our lives, we can see how every decision was affected by the people (or lack of people) in our life at the time.

One of the best ways to change your perspective is to see your plans through someone else’s eyes. That’s what Proverbs 15:22 encourages us to do, saying, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

Letting others into our lives is a risk. We fear that they’ll laugh at our dreams, they’ll think we’re dumb, or they’ll stop liking us if they really knew us. Even in close friendships, we hold back our plans for fear that our friends will actually hold us accountable or think less of us if we fail.

The truth is we’ll always go farther and accomplish more together than we will alone. God has already placed wise advisers all around us — people who love Jesus and love us. Gaining the perspective to make wise choices starts by taking a risk and letting godly friends into our lives.

  • What opportunities has God placed in your life to invest in someone else?
