Will you choose yourself or your Savior?

This week, I realized my need for a few more minutes of sleep was making my morning quiet time almost nonexistent. My time with the Lord was suffering as a result of my late hours, and a bad attitude, constant frustration and negative thoughts were filling my mind instead of Jesus. That’s when I made the commitment to go to bed by 8:30 p.m. no matter what was on TV or what work I felt like I needed to finish.

Obedience and discipline are hard, and they take perseverance. Whether it’s making time for Jesus each morning, saying no to a party or staying sexually pure, being obedient to God through spiritual discipline is something we decide to do or not do every day. Hebrews 12:11 says, “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Obedience to God, even when it’s hard, leads to the blessings of God.

When it’s easier to do what you instead of what God wants, will you choose your self or your Savior?
