Jesus’ Voice Gives Life

Overview: 1 Kings 1-3, Luke 21:20-38

The book of 1 Kings tells the story of Israel’s kings following David who do not follow the Lord and His law. As David’s son Solomon becomes king, he prospers as long he depends on God for wisdom.

In Luke, Jerusalem’s failure to listen to Jesus’ warning leads to their destruction. Jesus also warns of His return, warning his disciples to watch and pray until that day comes.

Observation and Activation

Solomon becomes king and gains power by violently putting down all threats to his reign. With a heart surrendered to the Lord, God visits him in a dream to grant his request for wisdom.

Jesus warns Jerusalem of their impending destruction by the Romans in A.D. 70. He uses this destruction as a pattern of the more distant future, warning of His second coming and urging them to trust in Him.

Do you hear God’s voice giving you wisdom and discernment as He gave to Solomon?
