God spoke and light appeared. God spoke and continents were formed. God spoke and creatures of every kind came to be. All that we are and all that we see was created by God for His glory.
Earth 1.0 was without sin or brokenness. God and man lived together in the Garden of Eden. Before Adam and Eve had each other, they had a relationship with their Father. Having only ever known God’s perfect love, they came to one another without fear or shame.
They were whole. And it was very good.
Just as God spoke the world into existence and breathed life in Adam, the words of the Bible are “breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). When we read Scripture, we are reading the very words of God.
Like the breath that filled Adam, the words of the Bible bring us life. They connect us to the heart of our Father that we “may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17).
As we read the Bible, we learn who God is and who we are to Him. And, we find our place in the story He’s been writing since the beginning of time.
Make It Personal
- What made you want to read the Bible in a year?
- Is there anything about this journey that you find scary or intimidating? If so, what?
- Take some time today to tell God what you’re excited to learn as well as any doubts you have. Ask Him to show you who He is on every page.
