Putting Faith to the Test

Overview: Ezekiel 23-24, James 1

Ezekiel concludes this major section of judgments against Jerusalem and Judah. He compares Israel and Judah to two sisters who are both unfaithful to the Lord. When Ezekiel’s wife dies, the Lord instructs him not to mourn her death. Ezekiel’s own life serves as a prophetic preview of death and hope awaiting Israel’s future.

The letter of James was written by James, the brother of Jesus. His main theme is that we must live out our faith, being doers and hearers of the word. He encourages readers to test their faith, believing that trials produce patience. He teaches that fulfilling God’s word through obedience is the ultimate sign of being a child of God.
