You Can Know God

To know how to do something, we follow instructions. To go somewhere, we follow directions. To know someone, we spend time with them. As followers of Jesus, we have a powerful resource, the Bible, which allows us to receive instructions and directions while, most importantly, enabling us to know God personally.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that the Bible (“all Scripture”) is “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”  The Bible gives us instructions for how we should live, showing us the correct way and helping us know when we make mistakes.  The result of this teaching and training leads us toward “righteousness,” which simply means we are living the way God want us to live.

When we read and study the Bible, not only are we being taught how to live, but we are also spending quality time with the Teacher.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 also tells us that the Bible is “breathed out by God.”  The Bible is actually God speaking directly to us.

When we read the Bible and pray back to God about what it is saying to us, it is as if we are sitting in His presence and having a conversation with Him about what He is teaching us.  We get to know God by spending time with Him in this way. The more we do it, the more we learn and the stronger our relationship with Him becomes.
