Session 1
The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper
From Spirit: Helper, Guide, God
Thankfully, God gives us a personal navigator, a Helper who will never leave us stranded and confused. This Helper is God’s gift to believers, the Holy Spirit. Not only is the Holy Spirit a gift, He gives spiritual gifts. Every believer has been given at least one gift to build the kingdom of God. Some of the gifts of the Spirit are prophecy, teaching, encouragement, giving, leadership and mercy. What pleases God isn’t our performance or impressiveness using our gifts, but our reliance on the Holy Spirit’s help.
Life is not always going to be a smooth ride, but we will always have the Holy Spirit with us, working on our behalf. The good news is that the Holy Spirit gives us the power to follow Jesus. Once we start a personal relationship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit ignites a desire to know Him and become more like Him. He speaks to us about who Jesus is, what He has taught (John 14:26), convicts us of sin (John 16:8) and guides us to truth (John 16:13). As our relationship grows and we learn who we are in Christ, the Spirit empowers us to live a life that reflects Jesus no matter the difficulties we face.
Even if you don’t feel the Holy Spirit’s presence or understand your situation, know that He will help you in your weakness (Romans 8:26). You just have to ask, listen and allow Him to move in your life.
