Nearly losing his job was the best thing that could have happened to Rodney
Rodney Engram’s Story

Rodney Engram was a family man.
He thought the secret to a happy life was providing a comfortable lifestyle for his wife and children, along with a good moral foundation.
I could not do it alone.
Rodney's desire to be a good husband and father was the reason he was open to checking out NewSpring when he heard about the rapid growth of the young church in 2003 — even though his church experience growing up wasn’t positive.
Rodney had hated what he saw as the religious hypocrisy of the traditional church, and he didn’t remember getting anything out of his weekly attendance as a child.
NewSpring, on the other hand, was relaxed, the teaching was easy to understand, and it was a place he, his wife and two children could enjoy.
But going back to church didn’t change his attitude: Rodney still lived as though everything depended on him.
“I was very self-centered, trying to do life on my own,” he says.
Suddenly faced with the possibility of job loss and the threat that he wouldn’t be able to provide for his family, Rodney felt overwhelmed.
Rodney had heard about Jesus week after week for years, but it was sitting at a restaurant lunch-table pondering an uncertain future when Rodney realized he had a decision to make.
“I just felt led to ask Jesus to come into my life and help me with all this," Rodney says. "I could not do it alone.”
In a relationship with Jesus, Rodney learned what it meant to put God first, instead of his career and his vision of the good life.
