Columbia leader’s home furnished with love through #ForSC Dollar Day

Sue Petty lost belongings in the 2015 flood and wanted to host a home group.

Sue Petty was ready to lead. Now her home is too.

Sue got new sofas, a love seat, and dining room set and more to make it possible to host a NewSpring group in her house.

Campus staff surprised Sue with news of the blessing at the grocery store where she works.

“It’s awesome,” a shocked Sue told Campus Pastor Alden Ellis.

The items were paid for by #ForSC Dollar Day. Every NewSpring attender was invited to bring a dollar to show that when everyone gives a little, God can do a lot.

Sue was making do with a card table, three folding chairs and a donated sofa after she moved into a manufactured home recently.

Some of her furniture and belongings were lost when a previous apartment was damaged in Columbia’s 2015 flood. Sue also got lamps, a recliner and ottoman, and a bedroom set.

“You are so diligent and you love people so well,” Alden told Sue.

Sue’s need came to light through a fellow volunteer.

“We thought, ‘We need to do something about this,’ KidSpring Director Ashley Jones says. “This is the Lord’s timing.”

Sue has attended NewSpring Columbia since 2014. She serves on the office team during the week.

The group Sue leads combines arts and crafts, scripture and fellowship, and it has been meeting at the home of one of its members. The table will be especially helpful for painting projects.

Sue told staff she bought the double-wide recently so she would have enough space to hold meetings in her own home.

“The whole thing I love about this is you wanted to have a place where your small group can come; where you can love them and feel at home,” Alden told Sue.
