Session 18
Dear God, send people to do your work and give us opportunities to serve
From Amen: A 27-Day Prayer Guide
Right before Jesus sent His friends out to do ministry, He tells them, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
This command applies to us today just as it did to Jesus’ followers 2,000 years ago. We have all been called, commissioned, and gifted to do the work of God. There are opportunities to serve each other daily. All we need to do is ask God to open up our eyes in order that we may see them.
Celebrate
- How have you seen people step up and serve so you could see God at work in your life? Take a moment to thank God for sending the right people at the right time to let you know He was near.
- What opportunities has God given you to serve others? How awesome is it that God, the creator of the universe, would partner with you to accomplish His work?
Anticipate
- Is there any area of your life where you’re looking forward to a harvest? Let God know your dreams for the areas where you’re currently serving, whether that’s raising kids, leading a volunteer team, or building relationships with non-believers at work.
Ask
- Are you having trouble finding a place to serve? Ask God to show you the opportunities you have to serve others.
- Is there any area of your life where the opportunities to do God’s work are greater than you can fulfill? Ask God to send others who will help you meet the need.
- Where are you spending the majority of your time? How are you using the freedom God has given you? If your focus has been more on what you want rather than what God wants, ask God for forgiveness, and let Him help you prioritize your time.
