Session 32

Give God control

From Genesis: A 7-Week Devotional

God looked favorably upon Joseph, and others quickly noticed it.

Potiphar purchased Joseph to be a servant, but he quickly recognized the Lord was with Joseph, so he placed everything he owned in Joseph’s care. According to Genesis 39:5-6, “From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. ... Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.”

God is faithful.

Potiphar had no reason to trust Joseph other than witnessing God’s favor on him. Potiphar gave Joseph complete authority over his estate; he held nothing back and he prospered.

What if we trusted God with all that we own? What if we held back no part of our lives? Imagine the peace we could enjoy if we left everything in God’s care and did not concern ourselves with anything. God is faithful. Let’s step aside and experience the blessing that comes with giving God full control of our lives. What situation do you need to give God control of today?

Reflect:

  • What is one blessing you have seen from giving God control in an area of your life?
  • Is there any area of your life that you haven't given God control of? Why are you holding it back from Him?
  • What is one step you can take today to give God control of that area of your life?
