Session 10
How valuable are you?
From Numbers: A 5-Week Devotional
We accomplish far more together than we ever could on our own. One of the core beliefs of NewSpring Church is that we can’t do life alone. We need others to be our support system.
God has put people in our lives who help show us our unique value. Whether it be a coach, a family member, a mentor, a friend or a boss- we have people in our lives who encourage us by pinpointing our strengths and helping us fine-tune our weaknesses.
Moses and Hobab demonstrate this type of relationship in Numbers 10 as the Israelites leave Sinai and set out into the desert. Hobab knew where to camp in the treacherous desert. His knowledge was crucial to the Israelites' survival and without him, they might die, so Moses asked Hobab to stay with them instead of returning home. This was a significant time for the Israelites and Moses was quick to point out Hobab's value.
The Israelites learned about God’s constant care for them through their journey in the wilderness. Without Moses’ encouragement to stay, Hobab may have left and returned home without offering the wisdom and direction the Israelites so desperately needed.
Moses and Hobab's relationship demonstrates how important it can be to point out value in the people around us. Genuine compliments build relationships and help people to see they are gifted and valued. When we are quick to show someone their value, we can help give them the courage and confidence to use their gifts.
Reflect:
- Who in your life has helped you to see your value? Show them your appreciation through a text or note this week.
- How can you encourage one person this week to see their value?
