Session 9
You are here. Now what?
From Numbers: A 5-Week Devotional
Has God ever told you to do something, but when you acted you didn't see immediate results? Maybe you’ve felt Him nudging and pointing you in a direction, but when you follow it you don't know what to do next.
When God told Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, they were expecting to head straight to freedom in the Promised Land. He didn't tell them ahead of time they would be wandering in the wilderness for 40 years before they made it to their final destination.
In Numbers 9, the Israelites had been camped at Mt. Sinai for over a year. As they set out on their journey to Canaan, God provided a cloud to guide them. They moved when the cloud moved and camped when it stopped.
By following the cloud, the Israelites knew they were exactly where God wanted them, even when they were standing still. While they were focused on heading to the Promised Land, God knew the best path to get them there and how long it should take. God knew this process would shape them to be who they needed to be when they arrived.
Sometimes God calls us to move, and sometimes He calls us to stand still. Even if we aren’t sure where God's plans for us may lead, we can trust He’s at work. Instead of asking God "Where should I go next?" try asking "What do you want me to do where I am?"
Reflect:
- Think of one time when you felt God leading you. What is one thing you learned through the process?
- What is one way God may be teaching you where you are today?
