Session 1
God Can Take Care of Me
From Understanding and Applying The Bible
Psalm 23:1-6
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
You might not know...
The same David that killed Goliath is the same David that wrote a lot of the book of Psalms.
What does it say?
King David is praising the Lord for how He takes care of us. Before David defeated Goliath and became king, he was responsible for looking after his father’s sheep. So he explains the way God cares for us using language that he understands.
What does it mean?
With God leading our lives He gives us everything we need. He is refreshing to us, and make us feel complete. And even when God disciplines us, it’s because He loves us! Things are good when God is on your side.
What does it mean to me?
God can take care of me better than I could take care of myself, and that should be a huge encouragement! He provides me with what I need so I don’t have to worry about anything. Even the scariest situations are no big deal with God, He is bigger and stronger than any kind of evil I face. Jesus looks out for me and does good for my soul.
