Trusting God was my way out of financial bondage

Tithing was Roshanda Fuller’s first step toward taking responsibility for her finances and living in financial freedom.

I started tithing because money has been a weak spot with me all my life. Tithing shows that you want to trust God with your finances. Our money isn't ours. Everything we have is a blessing from God, and I didn't want to be selfish with it.

I’m an emotional spender. If I was down or sad, I would spend on stuff the kids didn't need or makeup for myself — whatever it was, I would just buy it. Then I would get personal loans, with high-interest rates, knowing it would be hard to pay it back.

At one point, I owed more than $5,000. I knew I had to do something because being in financial bondage is no fun.

As a result of tithing and budgeting, I am within a couple months of being debt free!

I chose to use NewSpring’s budgeting tools because they help you to be more financially responsible and obedient to God.

Your finances are on paper right in front of you. You are able to see the where your money is going each month, and where you may have a problem spending money. And it's great to know you can call someone for help if needed.

Tithing shows that the love I have for Christ is worth sacrificing for. God always seems to bless a cheerful giver in ways you least expect. After I started tithing in 2014, I got promoted — twice.

As a result of tithing and budgeting, I am within a couple months of being debt free!
