Session 1
#IdentityCrisis
From Identity Crisis
Social media is huge in our world. And even if we don't know it, we have all been affected by social media in some way. A lot of us have been hurt because of social media, and it’s because sometimes we use it to literally define who we are.
When you post a picture and don't get enough likes, you see yourself as #notcool.
Sometimes other people post pictures from a party you weren’t invited to, and it makes you feel #lonely.
Sure it feels great when you post something and #thankGod it gets the hard earned likes you deserve. But that feeling of fulfillment goes away after a little while doesn’t it? So we try to replace that sinking feeling with another post, another video, another selfie. This game we play on social media never fills us up, and it never stops. The opinions of others will never make you feel better permanently. But there is One who knows your true identity, and His opinion will never change.
God would define you as #loved.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus gave His life so that you would know that you are #loved. You aren't #notimportant. That's not you, it's not your identity.
God loves you. He lived life on this earth, died and got out of the grave so that you can know that you are not defined by your likes on Instagram, or followers on Twitter (aka the opinions of others). You are #loved by him. That's your identity. You are #loved.
