Session 3
Satan Wants To Confuse You
From Identity Crisis
Apart from Jesus, we cannot know our true identity. What we were made for. One way to make sure you’re finding your identity in Jesus is to be aware of the things that keep that from happening. The Bible tells us that we have an enemy (Satan)--and he “comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” Satan wants to steal our joy, kill the good thing God is doing in us, and ultimately destroy us. How does he do that? He tries to confuse our identity.
Our enemy feeds us lies in an attempt to distract us from Jesus and who He says we are. How do we fight that? We kill the lies and stand firm in the truth of God’s Word.
Kill the lie that partying, getting drunk, or hooking up is the help we need to medicate the pain we’re feeling and hold on to the promise that “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18).
Kill the lie that gossiping to divert attention from our own insecurities and flaws will make you feel better and hold onto the truth that we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made” by the living God in His very own image (Psalm 139:6).
Kill the lie that you have to be loved by that boy or girl to actually feel valued and hold on to the promise that we are so valuable to God that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Apart from Jesus, we cannot find our true identity. But if we keep our eyes on Jesus by reading His Word, talking to Him in prayer, and getting in godly community (shout-out to the Fuse Groups going through this together!), we will know who we are in Jesus: loved, purposed, and valued.
Q: What is the lie Satan is trying to get you to believe?
Q: What verses help remind you of your God given identity?
