Session 2
What Is On The Inside > What Is On The Outside
From Identity Crisis
“You’re so beautiful, what the heck!”
“You look good.”
Words we all want to hear, right? We want people to point out how good we look. It’s in our nature. But what do you do when it seems like you’re not attractive enough? There is always somebody who looks prettier, dresses better, or get more attention than you.
And so often we critique ourselves. We think that we’re beautiful every once in awhile, like when we have a good hair day or our outfit looks great, but it’s so easy to get caught up in the comparison game or think, “I wish I looked like that”. And the standard is always changing. It’s like trying to hit a moving target, and it gets tiring quickly.
Well God is a constant, steady God. And the Bible tells us that while man looks at the outward appearance, God looks at the heart. It also says in 1 Peter 3 "What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition." Your shoe game and the shape of your eyebrows isn’t what matters the most. Much better that your inside be beautiful and strong. If you’re living in Christ, Jesus is letting the ‘beautiful’ and ‘strong’ dwell within you, and that lets you plug into a steady identity in Christ.
Q: Is your appearance something that creates an Identity Crisis in your life?
Q: Is your heart in the right place?
