Session 25
Consequences of Sin
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• Isaiah 59:1–2
• Romans 6:23
• Ephesians 2:1–3
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,”—Isaiah 59:2
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked...”—Ephesians 2:1–2a
The consequences of sin are not small. Sin is a direct offense against God’s holiness and His perfection. The Bible tells us that because of sin we are separated from God. In fact, our sin is so great that the Bible calls us spiritually dead. We are born enemies of God and deserve hell be- cause of our sin. Apart from God’s grace, sin rules over us and everything we do (Romans 14:23b). Sometimes this sin seems more appealing than God’s plan (Prov 14:12), but sin always leads to pain, regret, and later—death.
RESPOND:
1. What is the significance of being separated from God?
2. Think about where you’ve seen sin before in your life or others. Has it caused shame, pain, and regret? Looking back was it ever worth it?
3. Has there been a time when you have trusted Jesus to be the payment for your sin?
