Session 22
Initial Sin
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• Genesis 2:16–17
• Genesis 3:1–13
“...but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat” —Genesis 2:17
“...The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” —Genesis 3:13
Sin has always been about deception. From the beginning the enemy has deceived us into believing that sin is what we want, not God’s promise. Eve began to believe that the fruit from the tree was better than what God had for her. And just like Adam and Eve, we sometimes exchange the truth of God for a lie (Rom 1:25). The importance of reading God’s Word is that by knowing the truth, we can guard ourselves against the lies of sin. When we read God’s Word, we are equipped to fight.
RESPOND:
• Are you reading Gods Word? We must know the truth so that we don’t believe the lie.
• Look for sin patterns in your life. Are there any lies you are currently believing?
• If so, will you ask God to show you the truth?
