Session 1
What Is The Point?
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• Romans 10:9
• John 8:24
• John 3:15
• John 3:36
“...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9 (ESV)
“...that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.” —John 3:15 (ESV)
So what is the point in all of this? Why should we believe it? Why should the people we share the Gospel with want to believe it? The bottom line is belief in Jesus and all He has done for us brings LIFE! We were all born sinful-headed for death. But Jesus provided a way for us to have life through Him. Scripture is very clear that belief in Jesus is essential to salvation. And not just belief in “a god” or even belief in THE God (even demons believe, and shudder—James 2:19) but belief in and surrender to the person of Jesus Christ and the truth that He died and rose again to save YOU. You must believe for yourself, confess for yourself, and live it out yourself. Believing in who God is and what He has done for you breathes life.
Are you feeling “stuck” lately? Is it hard for you to find joy in your day to day? Maybe you have forgotten the life you found when you first believed. Jesus wants to remind you of that today. Take a minute to pray Psalm 51:12, today: “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
RESPOND:
• When is the last time you thanked Jesus for helping you believe? Take a minute to go back to when He saved you...when you first believed. Write down your story if you need to.
• What are you having trouble believing? Ask Jesus to help you.
• Are you having trouble seeing Jesus as “personal” lately? Take a minute and let Him know that and ask Him to show you the personal relationship He wants to have with you.
