Here’s the Verdict
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• Romans 3:9-20
• Romans 5:12-15
• Nahum 1:1-15
• Psalm 14
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” —Romans 3:10–12
Romans 3:23 tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ALL means everyone, including you and me. And because of this, because of sin, there is a price to be paid. The wages and penalty for sin is death, and because we are all guilty of sin, the only fair and right conclusion is not just physical death, but eternal death. God is Judge over all. And as Judge, He should poor out His wrath on us. It is what we deserve. If someone does not come in and intervene, we are all dead in our sins. Our verdict is “Guilty!” We need someone to come in and be a substitute for the death we deserve.
RESPOND:
• Do you think it is fair for God to declare us guilty of sin? Why or why not?
• Is there anyone that can say they have not sinned?
• Why and how does death exist? (Romans 5:12–15)
• Is there any area in your life that you are currently submitting yourself to the chains and slavery that is sin and death? (Galatians 5:1)
