Session 16
Substitution = Restitution
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• Romans 6:1–11
• 2 Corinthians 5:17–18
• 1st Peter 2:24
• Psalm 126
"When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.Then our mouth was filled with laughter,and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad." — Psalm 126:1–3
Not only does Jesus take away the wrath that we deserve, but His death also restores, heals and frees us. We are not an enemy of God anymore if we believe in the death and resurrection of Christ. We are restored to a right standing with God. The righteousness of Christ is added to us if we have faith. This is the greatest exchange to ever take place. Jesus takes all your sin, and you receive His righteousness (virtue, holiness, right-standing). All we have to do is come to the cross and believe, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). Therefore come to the cross. Be restored to God. Be healed from your wounds. Be set free from your chains of sin. He is ready and willing.
RESPOND:
• The Bible says to “work out your salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12–13)
• Are you trusting in Jesus as your Lord, Savior and substitution for your sin?
•When is the last time you heard from God? What did you hear? Jesus paid the price so that you can have a relationship with Himself. Are you growing and building this relationship?
• Have you allowed God to heal you from sin in your past? Don’t hold on to what He’s taken from you and for you! Have you confessed your sin to others so that healing can take place? You can do that right now. Come to Jesus. Be healed.
