Session 14
Life = Purpose (Part 3)
From The Gospel: Five Words You Need to Know
READ:
• 2 Corinthians 5:11–21
• Matthew 28:18–20
• Acts 17:26
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” —2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” —Matthew 28:19
When we fully understand our purpose, we can’t keep it to ourselves. When we experience the abundant life Jesus promises in John 10:10, we can’t wait to tell everyone about it. And that’s the next level of our purpose. God created us, saved us and purposed us so that we could tell others about His love.
As we learn more about God, we learn that He wants us to look more like His son, Jesus. And as we begin looking more like Jesus, we begin to see others the way He did. He saw their pain and offered healing. He saw their sin and offered redemption. How many people do we pass on a daily basis that we don’t really take the time to see? We sit beside this guy every day in English class, but we don’t know his name. We live right next door to this lady, but we haven’t a clue about her family.
When we embrace God’s purpose of sharing Jesus with others, we realize that Jesus died for them, just like He died for us (2 Corinthians 5:17). We also realize that every place we go and every relationship we have is a part of that purpose (Acts 17:26). That purpose compels us to be intentional about every interaction we have every single day.
RESPOND:
• What scares you about embracing this part of your purpose and talking to others about Jesus?
• Can you think of a time when you knew that the Lord had put you in a specific place to talk about Him with a specific person?
• Who is in your life right now that needs to hear about Jesus from you?
• How would your daily life look different if you saw everyone like Jesus did?
